Love — its excitement, its fear, and the ache of it going unreturned. This piece explores the thrill of unspoken love, the richness of Filipino culture and brown skin, and the mystery of forbidden affection during colonial times. Through hard-edge abstraction, layered brushwork, textured pastes, and intentional composition, Christian conjures a moment that feels both intimate and historically possible. At the center stands a human-like figure, painted in tones of brown and black, dressed in a cream-colored *Barong Tagalog*. He leans against a grey post, a single red flower delicately held in his hands. His gaze is cast away from the bloom — as if lost in thought, or hiding from someone. Why the secrecy? As a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, Christian has often wondered what queer love might have looked like during the Spanish reign in the Philippines. Courtship in that era was known to be grand and performative — yet here, the gesture is minimal. The figure stands shrouded in shadow, positioned on the darker side of the post, inviting the viewer to feel the tension of concealment. And with the flower — subtle, almost hesitant — we’re left to ask: Who is it for? Or perhaps, who is it from? Some may call this a self-portrait. Others, a portrait of anyone who has ever longed for love. While most of Christian’s earlier works, like *Booktropolis*, *Golden Hour*, and *Stacked*, feature smooth, directional strokes and flat shapes, this piece introduces layered textures and depth. He uses putty knives to smear modeling paste across a bronze background, creating a surface that feels raw and tactile — a striking contrast to the calm, composed figure in the foreground.

Do you really know who you are? Have you ever examined the intricate recipe of your identity? "Who am I?" These are the profound questions this painting invites you to ponder. Using acrylic paint and painter's tape, the artist has crafted a stunning piece that explores the interplay of opposites—masculine and feminine concepts—through the shades and hues of carbon black, titanium white, and a unique homemade off-white called “dried mushroom.” In this painting, the dark figure stands against a lighter background, while the lighter figure contrasts with a dark background. The lighter figure symbolizes masculine energy, and the darker figure represents feminine energy. Notably, the two structures are halved and then quartered, with the bottom sections intentionally switched, illustrating how masculinity and femininity coexist within us all. This piece, measuring 36 inches tall and 24 inches wide, was a standout at ArtJam in 2024, sparking conversation and admiration. Viewers agree that “nothing is simply black and white.” Covered in an isolation coat, this painting is ready to enhance any space with its thought-provoking design. Note: Frame is not included.

During a transformative trip to Southeast Asia in 2024, Christian visited an elephant sanctuary, where he had the unique experience of preparing food, feeding, and bathing the elephants. Inspired by this profound encounter, Christian envisioned his next painting during the drive back to the hotel. In "The Elephant," he employs a technique he frequently uses in his commissioned works, mixing modeling paste (impasto) with acrylics. Each shape is brushed in a different direction, creating depth and texture. “The light catches each organic shape, casting shadows and intensifying the tones,” Christian explains. By keeping the tones very neutral, he ensures that this piece can complement any setting. Currently stretched and unframed, "The Elephant" measures 16 inches tall and 20 inches wide. The abstract nature of the piece, subtly hidden in plain sight, invites viewers to find their own interpretations. A signature element of Christian’s work is the painted border, using colors from the piece or white, adding stability and elegance. This painting is a perfect blend of Christian’s technical skill and the profound inspiration drawn from his travels. "Booktropolis 2" is a testament to Christian's growth and dedication as an artist. This large, meticulously crafted piece, measuring 36 inches tall and 45 3/4 inches wide, builds on the foundation of the original "Booktropolis" with enhanced precision and detail. The sketching phase alone took several weeks, with Christian painstakingly ensuring the accuracy of each vanishing point. The creation process involved layers of paint, careful application of painter's tape, and more paint, spanning a total of four months while Christian simultaneously tackled other projects. This artwork reflects his admiration for architecture and multidimensional compositions, embodying the belief that anything is possible with determination and effort. To ensure off-canvas vanishing points were accurate, Christian ingeniously drilled a large plank behind the canvas and inserted large screws to hold the ruler in place. He used navy tones of red, blue, and yellow for the "books," Titan Buff for surfaces facing the right, and a homemade off-white for surfaces facing the sky. The graphite gray sky adds a sense of heaviness and intensity, making the cityscape stand out prominently. "Booktropolis 2" has been compared to the film "Inception" by art fair attendees, highlighting its intricate, dream-like quality. This labor of love is one of Christian’s most cherished creations, showcasing his technical skill and creative vision. Note: Frame is not included.
